Overview

The information EnCompass provides is divided into several main categories and may be accessed via the following options (see below for additional information and browse the sample site):

  • Report Builder—Build itineraries and produce comprehensive reports
  • Destination Information—Profiles and other resources for 229 countries
  • Medical Library—Professional and traveler education articles on travel health topics
  • Clinic Operations—Resources for opening, operating, and marketing travel health services
  • What’s New—Recap of each week’s changes and additions to the EnCompass information

Report Builder
This powerful, time-saving feature lets users build an itinerary and/or select multiple elements to include in a consolidated report or set of reports. A special Map Printer applet lets you print high-resolution versions of the malaria and yellow fever maps. High-resolution maps can also be printed using Adobe's Acrobat Reader.

Destination Information
EnCompass provides information for 229 destination countries with the following reports and materials:

  • Provider Summary—A short report for medical practitioners, focusing on immunizations, malaria, traveler’s diarrhea, and other key health concerns
  • Basic Preventive Measures—A synopsis for the traveler of common travel-related precautions in the areas of health and safety
  • Country Profile—A detailed report for both practitioners and travelers that recaps general information about the country, provides a broad assessment of health and safety risks, and includes reporting of disease outbreaks
  • Vaccine Handout—A checklist of travel and routine vaccinations for the patient encounter that includes the options "given," "declined," and "given at patient request" along with a brief summary of each vaccine written in layman's language
  • WHO and CDC Statements—Verbatim reporting of each organization's statements on malaria and yellow fever, plus the officially reported diseases as listed in WHO's Weekly Epidemiological Record
  • Hospitals/Clinics—When present, this report provides information about hospitals and medical clinics in the destination country that may be choices for care for travelers
  • Maps—A general country map is provided for each destination, along with a more detailed political map; when appropriate, maps for malaria and yellow fever are included for the destination
  • Additional Traveler Handouts—This presents a linked list of documents useful for counseling travelers to the selected destination; just click the document name and then print to generate a traveler handout

Medical Library
EnCompass presents travel health information that is not destination-specific in this section. Information is organized into the following categories and options:

  • Vaccines—Includes Vaccine-Preventable Illnesses and Other Vaccine-Related Information
  • Other Illnesses—Ranging from Altitude Sickness to West Nile Fever, travel maladies that can’t be prevented by vaccine
  • Health & Safety—General topics such as accident prevention, dental care, insect precautions, swimming, etc.
  • Special Needs—The special issues related to preparing immunocompromised or HIV-infected travelers, children, corporate travelers, diabetics, travelers with handicaps, pregnant women, and others
  • Forms & Samples—Standard forms used in the counseling process, including a medical questionnaire, immunization exemption letters, and the VAERS form
  • Counseling Algorithm—An introductory overview of the traveler counseling decision-making process
  • Guided Overview of Travel Health & Safety—A useful introduction for new medical staff, this is primarily a patient education tool

Topics in the first 4 categories above offer up to 4 different resource types when selected, with at least 1 type available for every topic:

  • Medical Summary—An overview of the topic for the medical professional
  • For The Traveler—A summary of the topic to be used as a patient handout
  • Feature Article—An indepth article for the professional examining a specific aspect of the topic
  • Literature Watch Review—Annotated summaries of articles on the topic appearing in the medical literature

Clinic Operations
Clinic Operations is designed to help travel medicine practitioners establish and operate a travel clinic in a cost-effective manner while promoting quality care. Included are materials that have been designed to help increase efficiency, standardize the delivery of service, reduce the administrative workload and diminish overall operating costs. EnCompass also provides a listing of items needed to open a clinic, suggestions for hiring staff, an offering of travel medicine resources, and a wealth of marketing and promotion ideas.

What’s New
What’s New provides a summary of changes and additions to EnCompass information during the previous week. Most commonly, changes fall in the categories of Current Health Concerns and Travel Advisories. Current Literature Watch Review items also appear in the update summaries, and additions or revisions to other categories of information are highlighted here as well.
