Shoreland is a medical publishing company focused on providing health care professionals with near-real-time data and recommendations for preventive and protective measures related to international health risks and location-specific medical and environmental threats. We have published Travax since 1986, and in recent years our focus has expanded to assist organizations in planning for and supporting their operations abroad. We provide data on resources available in local environments to meet the needs of traveler and expatriate populations.
A growing team of more than 40 employees publishes Travax and supports our subscribers. With office locations in Milwaukee (WI), Arlington (VA), and Burlington (VT), our technical and editorial staff is available Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time, to answer questions and resolve subscriber needs.
Through diligent research, critical analysis, and a commitment to creating usable information, Shoreland produces nuanced recommendations to guide decision-making regarding health and safety issues in any area of the world. Whether the threat is dengue fever for a recreational traveler, political violence for a business traveler, or the availability of reliable medical infrastructure for expatriates affected by a natural disaster, the Shoreland team provides up-to-date knowledge and carefully reasoned recommendations.
Shoreland develops its publications with guidance from its medical advisors who are internationally recognized practitioners in the fields of travel medicine, global occupational health and safety, tropical medicine, and infectious diseases.
Our research and editorial staff monitor and synthesize data and reporting from more than 100 international health resources to give Travax subscribers up-to-date information that is focused for the individual traveler's needs beyond the public health orientation of governmental and international organizations. Our team follows established schedules and protocols to monitor and evaluate data published by a wide spectrum of national, regional, and international disease-monitoring organizations, including the U.S. CDC; WHO and its affiliated entities, regional offices, and topical publications; Health Canada; ECDC; and many national ministries of health. In addition, we monitor all relevant professional journals; leading international news media websites; the consular websites of the U.S., Canadian, U.K., and Australian governments, and other relevant international health information sources, such as ProMED-mail. Travel health professionals know they can rely on Shoreland to distill into Travax only the relevant and clinically useful practical information from this large number of reporting organizations.
